We teamed up with the pet fencing industry leader to develop an innovative, new, Bluetooth- and Internet-enabled product line.
Pet Stop provides safe and affordable pet fences for dogs and cats. Its electronic “hidden” fences are 100% made in the USA. Pet Stop is innovating the pet fencing industry in ways never done before.
They challenged us to develop an app that would make both their customers’ and franchise owners’ (also known as “dealers”) lives easier and instill more assurance when it comes to the safety of their pets. This became Link™, the first fully-connected Bluetooth- and Internet-enabled app and dog fencing product line.
Care was given to formulate a plan of action to satisfy Pet Stop’s broad goals. Working closely with their in-house product engineering team, we determined that the product should connect to the mobile app via Bluetooth LE technology. Still, we took it a step further, building a full-fledged web platform and accompanying API to communicate with the app itself.
This enabled us to allow seamless communication between Pet Stop, their dealers, their customers, and the Bluetooth collar itself.

To meet the requirement of launching an identical app to both stores, we developed Link™ using Cordova hybrid app technology. This enables our team to manage a single codebase rather than two, which is important because it allows us to ensure consistent UX across all devices while keeping the project within budget. We utilized a custom-modified Framework7 to manage views within the app, and Firebase to handle all push notifications. We also worked with Pet Stop’s existing design house: They designed the screens, and we developed the app.

To tie everything together, we developed the web platform and accompanying, custom API. We then implemented user accounts with differing permission levels. This allowed us to let customers manage and monitor their dog fence system; dealers manage their customers and the settings of their customers’ systems; and administrators manage all users and systems. Pet Stop staff can also manage the dealers’ assigned postal codes.
The platform sets the stage for future additions to the fully connected product line, enabling all new products and applications to communicate via the same API.
